The greatest part of 2022 was seeing you completely vindicated by the truth, which you have always upheld. The most difficult part is watching the masses close their ears and eyes to the truth and continue to embrace a manufactured "reality" that is not real at all. Many blessings to you, David, your children, dogs and all loved ones for the coming year. You have given the world so much. Thank you for it all.

Dear Glenn,

I really hope you're not too distressed over the fact Bill Kristol and Jeffrey Goldberg get paid to [actually, live to] denigrate the truth. That's the way it works. If it's any consolation, they themselves know they're frauds.....whereas everyone who follows you readily sees [and admires] the fact your first impulse has always been, however disadvantageous to you personally, speaking the truth.

Many thanks!

How many pulitzers have been issued for reports that turned out incorrect...

The best result of this disaster is many more people have learned a healthy distrust of media, medics, schools, churches, bureaucrats, and other self professed authorities. Used car salesmen and plumbers are in higher regard since they at least provide a useful product, and don't kill us.

The dream of Wall Street was always to know about the trend before it happens to perfect the wins of buying and selling.

But just take it one step further... what if Wall Street could actually manufacture the trends? What if the elite moneyed class owned the media and could direct the narrative toward trends designed to maximize the returns to the elite moneyed class.

Politicians might not like it as Wall Street would then be in the position of king-maker. So Wall Street would need to make a lot of political friends... buy them off... make them part of the moneyed elite cabal.

This is where we are today. The media and journalism is a mess because the corporate media is controlled by a few mega-sized Wall Street asset management companies that manage the assets of our global billionaires. The journalists in the hive are doing what employees always do... try to please the bosses for favor.

Independent journalism is leaking out and it is good... but then Wall Street will just purchase the more successful of these and eventually they too become the same fake-news narrative machine.

What we need is to break the corporatist cabal where the politicians are getting their palms greased. We also should have some more application of anti-trust and anti-monopoly laws within industries. For example, Blackrock, Vanguard and State Street combined have controlling interest in almost every major media corporation. And the major media corporations are also too big and need to be be broken up.

The reason that we have lost independent journalism is that the media business is no longer supportive of independent journalism. We need political action to get it back.

Thank you, Glenn - thank you for the legitimate journalism you're doing, thank you for the sacrifices you and your family continue to make. Thank you for your tireless pursuit of truth, your bravery, your wit, insight and energy. (And, thank you for the transcripts.) Godspeed, sir.

"Fox News obviously had no capacity to convince American liberals of anything."

On a similar note, Obama did more to neuter the antiwar movement than anything Dubya or Cheney ever could have dreamed of doing.

Speaking of, remember when Cheney was Team D Folk Devil Number One?

Not only were those who pushed the lies of the National Security State rewarded, but those who dared question those lies, however timidly, were cast into Outer Darkness, even as the lies proved more shameless and blatant than any naysayer had predicted.

Particularly since 2016 the Democrats have slowly imposed a regime of soft fascism, colluding with corporate/online media, security state apparatus FBI/DOJ/CIA/NSA,, and the entertainment industry. Only in this context can the role of "journalists" be understood, as apparatchiks enabling the regime's control of the populace.

Mr. Greenwald

The reasons for the mainstream media's lies after 911 are completely different than the lies promoted for the four years after Trump was elected. In both cases, they rejected the honorable description of a journalist as the fourth branch of government. In both cases they took a popular political position - first because of the 911 tragedy, and in the second case, an anti-Trump position popular with their base.

With the nomination and election of Trump, the mainstream media has taken advocacy journalism to a new level i.e. to a new low. That includes lies like the Trump - Russian collusion "hoax" and the Steele Dossier. Let's not forget that the New York Times falsely promoted that Officer Sicknick died because of injuries suffered from being bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher. The New York Times also has virtually a blackout on the Twitter Files. That is a curious position for journalists that should naturally be attracted to government interference in an election to support (or oppose) a candidate - as it appears from some of the released internal documents at Twitter. The distrust of Americans to make the "right" decision in the voting booth if they know the truth about the Biden family business is anti-democratic to the core.

Make no mistake about it, the anti-Trump gangrene spreading through the MSM is supported by the left who believe that even anti-democratic methods must be used if necessary. The Democrats in Congress have brilliantly painted Trump as a threat to democracy even as they supported the lies that the laptop was Russian disinformation. Did the Democrats conspire with the FBI? Anything to keep Trump from being elected.

Great article, and interview. As someone who has always considered himself a pragmatic progressive, I am very grateful for journalists like you, Taibbi, Matte, etc. to provide insight that is not provided by MSM. I would like to add my own observation with respect to the first part of the article when you referenced all of the journalists and so called elite publications like the NYT and the Atlantic, in addition to the group of neocons who pushed the big lie. There is an overt and obvious link that connects most of these nefarious people and publication giants, and the inordinate control they exert on Americans understanding and perception of both foreign and domestic events and policies, and yet it remains the great 'Unspoken', the elephant in the room that cannot discussed. Why?

Glen, when do we talk about limits on the press the way we talk about limits on speech, i.e. yelling fire in a theater. what the press has done with press freedom has been far more foul, impactful, and evil than some nut causing a theater stampede.

as time goes on and we learn more about JFK assassination, mkultra, etc, who's to say 9/11 wasnt also just part of a huge domestic psyop? would the CIA set up a school shooting and frame a dead patsy to help politicans do a gun grab? its not off the table in my mind. there is lots of evil in high places.

Bertrand 's history of lies are almost beyond belief. Thanks Glenn for bringing the evidence against her and Goldberg. If they had any sense of shame they would have resigned in disgrace years ago. I know now there are a couple of outlets I can dismiss because they continue to employ these two frauds.

It’s clear that these journalists don’t work for us, the ordinary people. Who do they work for? Themselves, or? Doesn’t this look a lot like someone reporting to his boss? “We were able to report in 2014 that Ken Dilanian would actually submit his stories, drafts of his stories, to the CIA for approval before publishing them.”
